5 Question Friday

Go with it. I've never done one of these linky-question things but this one seemed fun...

1. If you could be a fly on any wall, which would you choose?

Dood! I would be a fly on the wall on Friday nights in my husband's pick-up hockey league locker room! He plays with all the guys I work with. Oh! The dirt! Yippppeeeeee.... I could be bribing them for the next 5 years on one Friday's info. Sadly, my husband has morals. :(

2. Do you budget your Christmas shopping or just get it done without budgeting?

Budget? Bwahahahahahahahaha. I have a list. I do not stick to it. VISA sends me a thank you card in January. I do however get almost all of my shopping done in one insane day. I get November 11th off (Rememberance Day here in the Great White North) cause I'm a spoiled government worker....but my sons HAVE to go to school! My BFF (hi, Vicki) and I go over the river to Buffalo and shop like demon possessed elves. It's awesome and we always work in a great lunch with head-sized margaritas :)

3. What is the craziest fad diet you have ever done?

NutriSystem. I was a crazed lunatic who only craved Betty Crocker chocolate icing and cried for 6 weeks. True. Story. Y'all.

4. Is there a TV show that you have seen every episode/season of?

When I was a teen I never missed Cheers or MoonLighting or Miami Vice (gawd, I am old as dirt). I now love True Blood and haven't missed one yet. My sister is trying to lure me into the 148 seasons of Desperate Housewives.....but I'm not biting.

5. What one song always pulls at your heart?

Wow, hard question. Brad Paisley's "Whiskey Lullaby" has always had much meaning for me though.

Welcome to "Why I don't drink wine Wednesday"

This poor woman was a bridesmaid at my girlfriend Laura's wedding. Her poor husband sat beside me for the reception. When she got to our table I had been drinking wine. Only wine. It was a mostly dry wedding so I was outta luck on the bourbon....sooooooo, well she had made a comment about her boobs being too large for the dress Laura had picked out....

I was ever so sweet to highlight this in the reception photos. Sigh. When will I learn that Chardonnay is not my friend? Thanks to Sunny at Life in Rehab for the inspiration behind my new weekly feature:

"Why I don't drink wine Wednesday"

I love making new friends....

....so, check out my sidebar to see where I am introducing myself this week!

She shoots........she SCORES!

Now I *know* why it is called the Salvation Army! I found this gorgeous pair of acrylic lamps (they work too) just sitting idly on top of the small nightstand my sister was pointing at this morning! I swooped down upon them so fast, I think I made my sister's hair *whoosh*! Y'all I am SAVED! Meet my soon to be bedside table lamps in my soon-to-be fabulous new Master Bedroom....you know, once we get that damn wall out.

Did I mention they were $4.99 each? EEEEEEk!

So today, picked up the amazing lamps, that huge brass oval frame $5.00 (wait to see what I got planned there), a brand new black frame still in the plastic for $8.00. Under all of my latest treasures is that weirdo peanut-shaped IKEA desk table $10.00. I have huge plans for that going into Quinn's new room.

What have you found lately? Love your stuff, Lady!

The spindles.......oh, the spindles.

Longest. Project. Ever.

We got section 2 done last night and this morning.....it's not an "alert the media" moment but I am starting to understand how this is all going to look when it's done and Babies I am EXCITED! No more faux-oak for Dharma :)

I started out with this.....remember?

I cannot recommend these sanding sponges enough, if you are going to give these spindles the sanding they need and get all the crannies in all those horrid country-crevices....gotta have these.

....anbd yes, Virginia, this actually works! I was so scared of getting paint on the carpet but the taping worked, take your time.

OK, OK. I had a little help. I did do all the sanding and most of the priming. Greg finished up the second coat today while he watched (kept an eye on) the guys doing the flooring :)

Thanks for checking in. Love your stuff, Lady!

Linking to Savvy Southern Style.....just to show off

As I speak to you now....

....new floors are being installed in my 3rd floor down. I am weeping onto the keyboard as we speak. Yay to Greg for getting so much prep-work done prior to Carl coming today to lay the floor. He worked very hard at getting all that smelly carpet up, scraping the floors and shop-vac'ing it all away. BY the time I got home from work Thursday  the hall and Liam's room looked like this :) Sqeeeeeeeeee!

Then he got busy on taking up the familyroom carpet and rolling it in little balls for the garbage man. Bless our garbage carrier for not making us take all this to the Dump! I did all the taping of the rolls.....cause I am very handy. lol

And now my floors are being installed by Carl & Co. a local handyman who was referred to me by a flooring company in Town :) I am so excited. Greg will be finishing the 1/4 round by this week and we are good to go....by the way while all this clearing of carpet was going on, I was busy....wait for an update on all those spindles Babe! You know spindles, rails etc....like the jailbars you're staring through in these last two pictures? As God is my witness....

Over a year? Can't be....

Have you really had to put up with me and this blog that long? I cannot believe it. I had a chance to take a look at my post from October 19, 2009 and I guess this post is a pretty good place to start to understand how I ended up being the Mermaid I am.....and yes, Virginia, that tattoo really is my blog button :) She was my 40th birthday present to myself. Go me.

I've had a really busy but good year and as we get ready to go into another winter I am starting to make real headway into all the projects on the house I have wanted/ needed to complete. That being said I have only painted out one small section of the stair rails (I have realized one cheek of my ass might actually be made of velcro....the other side being firmly attached to our sectional). We have the contractor coming this Saturday to install all our laminate flooring in the 3rd floor down and I am ever so excited about that! Cannot wait to post some *afters* on that one.

Mental note: take *befores* dummy.

So, I guess I'm here to say THANKS for reading, all 23 of you....love your stuff Ladies. I wanna be each of you when I grow up....

In the meantime, here is a little slice of what my kids and their friends get up to:

October 4, 2010

in my madness....

I started painting out my Faux-oak staircases this weekend. I only got one section done and started clinging to the unpainted rails, seated on the steps wailing away "What have I done?". It's gonna be a long week y'all

Before:

See the cherry kitchen cabinets? I matched the new laminate flooring that is going in the downstairs family room/ bedroom to them. Faux-oak is not gonna cut it. So painting I will be. Send tequila.
