OK, calling all you DECOR DIVAS!
My sister has moved into her *new* apartment and this is the staircase to her domain. Please be aware she is suddenly single, has a daughter of 14 and is making the very mostest of a modest budget!!
This stairwell makes me think that whoever lived here previously worked in a kennell and had no training on how to remove one's shoes. That being said, the wooden steps beneath this carpet-nightmare are worn and not in the best shape...
So, my lovelies, any ideas on cheep-cheep, happy lovely ways to make this look more like the *Stairway to Heaven* instead of a waterslide to Hades?
I love you. Thanks for diving in with me. :)
So okay. Cheap is my forte. :) Even though the steps may be worn can we lose the carpet and just paint the steps. There are some really fun paint ideas out there. Like words or numbers on the risers or a stencil pattern. ....cool not 80's country. Actually I think this area is kind of cool. It definitely has potential.

Yep I agree, paint them and then cover the risers with a pretty wrapping paper and cover with varnish. Cheap but a good bit of work, still I bet her sister will help.....!
ReplyDeleterip up the carpet ...then paint...it's code here in Canada to have the risers painted with a contrasting stripe on the top so people can see the steps easily. I painted a turquoise stripe along the top of each step and it looked great and was safe too.....
ReplyDeleteSee? You are all so awesome....of course the carpet has to go but the idea of striping and numbering the steps? Decoupage? Genius!
ReplyDeleteMuah!!!!
I'm late to this party, but on the off chance she hasn't done anything yet, one of my favorite pictures ever is this rainbow staircase.
